WINEMAKING: Vinification of grapes coming from La Morra, MGA (cru/vineyard) Berri. Alcoholic fermentation happens in concrete and lasts around 12-14 days, followed by a 6-7 day post-fermentative maceration. Total skin-juice contact is around 3 weeks. Then malolactiC takes place in oak and the wine ages for around 20 months in 52-hl and 25-hl oak barrels crafted by Tonnellerie Garbellotto. After aging, the wine rests for some months in concrete, before being bottled, usually in April-May of the year before the release.

DESCRIPTION: Barolo Berri comes from a vineyard at the extreme west border of the Barolo area, with an altitude between 370 and 430 mts asl (1200 -1400 ft). Our Barolo Berri doesn’t want to stand out for complexity or longevity, but for drinkability and immediacy, due to its inner fruit profile, sweet ripeness and freshness. Like any Barolo, it is certainly suitable for long ageing but, in our opinion, this wine can be consumed right after the release with extreme pleasure.
ACCOLADES
93-96 Points- The 2019 Barolo Berri was tasted from two barrels, one of which utilized whole bunches in the fermentation. While both offered freshness and purity, the second barrel offered more significant spice in its profile, with more depth of fruit, and is firmly structured at this stage. The components are compelling and should make for a wonderful finished blend in a few years’ time.-Jeb Dunnuck
-
93 Points- The 2019 Barolo Berri is tightly wound and austere in the early going. Crushed red berry fruit, iron, dried herbs and white pepper give the Berri a striking aromatic top register. The tannins are a bit nervy, though, so a few years in bottle are warranted. Frost decimated the crop at Torriglione, which is why this wine (typically the Barolo del Comune di La Morra) is Berri in 2019. To be exact, there is 4% Torriglione, as that was the wine used for topping.-Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

93 Points- Spicy, this red evokes strawberry, cherry, medicinal herbs and mineral flavors. Bears the austere profile of the vintage, yet is balanced and persists on the long finish. Best from 2026 through 2043. —B.S., Wine Spectator
